Policies and Procedures

An ASB/ID badge will be issued to all students at the beginning of the year. Students will be expected to have their school ID on their person when attending in person. 

All students will be expected to go through the metal detectors in the morning. Items will be removed from bags that may set off the sensors and placed in baskets. Any bags at any point may be searched. If the metal detector detects anything, items will be searched to ensure a safe learning environment.

Breakfast and lunch are available at scheduled times. Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30 AM each morning. Breakfast will also be available between 1st and 2nd period each day. This is a grab and go style breakfast to be taken to Open Doors. Lunches are to be eaten outside of restrooms and in designated spaces. Designated spaces are the commons/lunch room and Open Doors only. Those students not eating should stay in Open Doors. Students are responsible for keeping their eating area clean. During lunch students must stay in the commons, library or courtyard that are under supervision not in the hallways. 

Food deliveries are not permitted as we do not want anyone unknown on our campus. 

Bus Passes 

Students living within the Yakima School District boundaries have free access to the city bus. The student must show their  student ID badge in order to ride.

The Child Development Center is open to teen parents who are enrolled at Open Doors. The children must be between the ages of six weeks and four. Parents must be on campus if the child is in childcare. 

Only enrolled teen parents and their child are allowed to enter the child care area before and after school. Immediately upon arrival at school, parents must sign the child into the child care and then head to the appropriate class. Students, who continually show up late, after warning, may be required to have a conference with the director or principal.

Case Managers/Stanton Counseling Staff 

Case management staff are available for help with personal issues, scheduling or credit checks. Students will connect with the Open Doors team to request access to the counselor.  

Student Cars 

Driving is a privilege. Student parking is in designated areas only. The parking lot speed limit is 5 MPH. 

Personal Vehicles

Students who drive a vehicle to school must have a valid driver’s license.

Park on the East side of the building only.

Once students enter the school, they may not return to a vehicle and re-enter the school.

Washington State law requires high school students who drive motor vehicles to school to observe all rules of safe driving in the immediate vicinity of the school and in parking lots; to park in designated areas; and to comply with state vehicle registration procedures and insurance regulations (6.2.19). Failure to do so may result in the denial or loss of parking privileges on or in the vicinity of school premises and/or other discipline or corrective action. 

The school is not responsible for stolen or lost articles, so please lock car doors.

Smoking/Tobacco/Tobacco-like products 

Students are not permitted to smoke, or to use or possess any tobacco or tobacco like substance, this includes vape pens, on school premises (Including in the vicinity of the school and bus stop), in vehicles, or at school-sponsored activities. 

Alcohol/Drugs/Weapons

These items are never allowed to be on campus for any reason. There will be an automatic disciplinary action for these on campus.

All backpacks are subject to search at any point by administration and security if needed. 

If it is necessary for a student to take any form of medication at school, a medication administration form must be signed by a doctor and submitted to the nurse. All medications will be kept in the office and distributed by staff trained in school district medical procedures unless noted otherwise by doctor (ex. Inhalers, epi-pens, etc). 

Visitors 

Students may NOT bring student visitors to school, as this is a disruption to the educational process. Parents are welcome any time to schedule appointments or meet with our support staff. Parents must have administrative approval with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice in order to visit classrooms.  

Volunteers

Volunteers must fill out a Volunteer Application and a driver’s license will need to be copied for a background check. These forms may be picked up at 104 N. 4th Avenue or at Stanton Academy.

Electronics are for educational purposes only. 

Any music that is played by a student during their designated time must be connected to headphones. No speakers are allowed. 

No recording or taking pictures of students or staff will be allowed.

All students will use the SmartPass system to leave class for bathroom breaks or to visit support staff. SmartPass is not available while Stanton students are going to their next class. During class transitions for Stanton students, Open Doors students are required to remain in the classroom, and SmartPass will be unavailable. Students may only request to use the SmartPass Kiosk with approval from the Open Doors team.  In some circumstances, students may be escorted in the building by the security team. 

Upon withdrawal, appropriate forms must be completed and turned into the office. All books and district property must be turned in. Report cards or any other records will not be issued until all library fines, book fines or any other financial obligations have been paid. 

Students not engaging in the program and completing the required attendance hours will be withdrawn from the program.
