On Task: To maintain a productive learning environment, students are expected to work quietly and independently. Those who are off task or causing distractions may be asked to leave for the day. This will impact your attendance requirements for the program.

Definition of Excused Absence:

  1. Personal illness
    • In cases where excused absences are extraordinarily frequent and excessive, a physician's excuse will be required
  2. Family emergency
  3. School sponsored events, counselor or administrator appointments, support groups.
  4. Health appointments
    • Verification is needed from the medical office
  5. Court appointments
    • Verification is needed from court official
  6. Approved pre-arranged absences
    • Approval denied if student has 5 or more absences
  7.  Work schedule 
    • If your work schedule conflicts with school hours (between 7am to 3:30pm), you're responsible for submitting your weekly work schedule to your teacher for the week you will not be able to attend.

Weekly Status Checks 

Students receive weekly communication from Open Doors staff. Staff communicate via email, phone call, text message, and/or in person. The goal is to engage with students, offer support, and provide program updates. 

Indicators of Academic Progress (IAP) 

Progress Students must achieve an indicator of academic progress every month. 

Allowable IAP's include:

  • Earn 0.25 high school credit;  
  • Earn 1 college credit; 
  •  Receive a college certificate after completion of forty hours of instruction; 
  •  Receive an industry recognized certificate of completion of forty hours of instruction;  
  • Pass one or more tests or benchmarks that would satisfy graduation requirements;  
  • Pass one or more high school equivalency certificate;  
  • Make a significant gain in a core academic subject; 
  • Successfully complete curriculum in a core academic subject that does not earn credit;
  • Successfully complete college readiness course work
  • Pass one or more tests or benchmarks would satisfy graduation requirements;
  • Complete a series of short-term industry recognized certificates equaling at least forty hours.
  • Successfully complete job search and job retention course work; 
  • Successfully complete a work-based learning experience of at least forty five hours; 
  • Enroll in a college level class for the first time 
  • Complete an adult basic education (ABE) class; or
  • Complete an English as a second language (ESL) class
