We are thrilled to welcome you to the Open Doors GED/Diploma Program, where opportunity and support come together to help you achieve your educational and personal goals. Located at Stanton Academy, Open Doors provides a flexible, non-traditional pathway for students working toward a GED or high school diploma.
We recognize that every student’s journey is unique. Whether you are returning to complete your education or starting fresh, our team is committed to providing the tools, guidance, and encouragement needed for success. You are not alone—support is available every step of the way.

Mission Statement
Open Doors will provide a safe, supportive educational environment for each student. We will serve and re-engage students with vital academic skills that will prepare them for their lifelong educational and occupational goals.
What is the Open Doors program?
The Open Doors Re-Engagement Program at Yakima School District provides students an alternative pathway towards earning their GED or High School diploma, along with the opportunity to enhance personal skills in a variety of academic areas.
The Open Doors team works closely with students to ensure academic goals are being met, as well as assisting with career and college readiness skills. Our staff monitors each student’s progress regularly, adjusts lessons, and implements interventions accordingly.
We offer:
- GED preparation through the GED Pathway
- High school credits using cutting-edge curricula for those participating in the Diploma Pathway program
- Flexible learning plans that students complete at their own pace
- Personalized support from knowledgeable staff
- Career and college readiness from our career counselors
- Direct referral to free counseling
Who qualifies for Open Doors?
To receive assistance, students must meet all the following criteria:
- Be at least 16 years of age, but under 21 by September 1st of the current school year. Age 22 for student on an IEP
- Be credit deficient
- Reside within the boundaries of one of the OSPI-approved Open Doors consortium member school districts
Diploma Pathway
The Diploma Pathway offers students:
- The option to pursue a District Diploma (explore waivers and alternative pathways)
- A way to earn 0.5 credits per course using state-of-the-art curricula
- Opportunities to satisfy district-specific graduation requirements
- Fulfillment of Graduation Pathway requirements
- Guidance for completing High School and Beyond Plan Requirements
- Opportunity to enroll at YV-Tech Skill Center
GED Pathway
The GED Pathway offers students:
- The option to focus on one subject at a time
- Individualized curricula
- Practice tests at no cost
- On-site Official GED tests at no cost
- Opportunities to test out of classes
- Career and College assistance during and after GED completion
- Opportunity to enroll at YV-Tech Skill Center
- If you are currently enrolled (Active Status) in the Yakima School District, you must fill out and turn in a transfer form to our registrar. Our principal, Mrs. Riley, will review your request and approve or deny it. You will receive an email or phone call with information on what steps to take next.
- If you are currently not enrolled (Inactive Status), you must fill out and turn in an Open Doors’ registration form to our registrar. Mrs. Riley will review your request and approve or deny it. You will receive an email or phone call with information on what steps to take next.
